City, Metro in final tomorrow

Strokeful knocks by Govinda Rajbongshi and Ram Kripal Gupta went in vain as Gauhati Town Club today failed to stop hosts City Cricket Club A team's foray into the final of the third Golap Hazarika and Arati Hazarika Day-Night T20 Cricket Tournament, under way at Judges Field here.

Guwahati, April 25: Strokeful knocks by Govinda Rajbongshi and Ram Kripal Gupta went in vain as Gauhati Town Club today failed to stop hosts City Cricket Club A team's foray into the final of the third Golap Hazarika and Arati Hazarika Day-Night T20 Cricket Tournament, under way at Judges Field here.

In the second semi-final today, City got the better of GTC by 16 runs. They will now meet Metro Sports Club in the final on Wednesday. Metro yesterday beat AG Sports Club by 34 runs in the first semi-final.

Put in to bat, City were all out for 157 runs in the 20 overs. GTC started cautiously but could not gain the necessary momentum to be restricted to 141 for four in the 20 overs.

Kalyan Gogoi (31, 3x4, 1x6), Rahul Hazarika (30, 4x4, 1x6) and Bastab Hazarika (22, 1x4, 2x6) were the main scorers for City against some superb bowling attack by Nayanjyoti Deka and Amit Das who returned with the figures of four for 23 and three for 41 respectively.

Govinda Rajbongshi topscored for GTC with a breezy 45 (7x4) and Ram Kripal Gupta remained unbeaten on 41 (2x4, 1x6), with Nirendra Dekaraja on 16 (2x4) at the other end.

Nipon Deka of City picked up two wickets for 19 runs and was adjudged the Man of the Match.

Yesterday,put in to bat, Metro were restricted to 150 for eight in the 20 overs and AG Sports were bundled out for 116 in 17.1 overs, thanks to a quick haul of three for 16 by pacer Chanakya Sarma, who earlier scored 34 (3x4, 2x6) from only 18 balls to be adjudged the Man of the Match.

Lenien wins: Lenien Jamir of Assam yesterday clinched the AITA Championship Series title in the girls' under-16 event at the Pro Star Tennis Academy in Gurgaon.

Chess feat: Assam state under-11 champion Dhrupad Kashyap, a trainee of Gauhati Town Club Chess Foundation here, secured the 20th position in the Triple C All-India Fide Rating (below-1800) Chess Championship, held at Puri from April 20 to 24.

Seeded 126 in the tournament, he scored 6.5 points out of possible nine to increase his international rating by 146 points.
