Residents of North Guwahati have urged the Guwahati development department to repair the roads in the area, which are in a dilapidated condition, immediately.
They have also decided to submit a memorandum to Guwahati development department minister Himanta Biswa Sarma in this regard.
The Assam centre of the Institution of Engineers organised a meeting on its premises on Wednesday to discuss various issues concerning engineers in the state. The Vivekananda Kendra Institute of Culture, Guwahati, will celebrate its 12th foundation day on January 31. Jammu and Kashmir Governor Lt Gen. (retd) S.K. Sinha is expected to attend the celebration. The Asam Mahila Sramik Union organised its third annual conference recently. Various issues, including improvement in the work environment of women labourers in the state, were discussed on the occasion. Guwahati Refinery has donated Rs 2 lakh for the renovation of Amal Prabha Udyan at Kasturba Nagar, Ulubari. The refinery’s deputy general manager, S.P. Bordoloi, handed over the cheque to the Kasturba Nagar Unnayan Samiti. Members of the Gauhati Brahmo Samaj recently visited Navachetana, a rehabilitation centre for homeless and mentally challenged women. They distributed warm clothes among the inmates of the centre. The All India Radio, Guwahati, will telecast a programme on poetry in different Indian languages on Thursday. The programme will be conducted by Rajib Baruah and Prabal Sarma.
