Guwahati, Dec. 10: Defending champions Border Security Force (BSF) retained the B.N. Mullick all-India police football title in its 51st edition, defeating Punjab Police 5-3 through tiebreakers in the final at the Police Training Centre in Dergaon yesterday.

After a goalless first half, Prabin Kumar of the BSF drew first blood in the 63rd minute. However, Amarjit Singh of Punjab Police drew parity 14 minutes later. The score read one-all at the end of regular time, forcing the match into extra-time, which also failed to end any result.

In the tiebreaker, R. Singh, S. Ganguly, I. Chara and G. Singh found the net for BSF, while only S. Hassan and G. Singh could score for Punjab Police.

Earlier in the day, Nagaland Police bagged the second-runners-up title in the 31-team championship, defeating Goa Police 2-0 in the match for the third and fourth places. Sixty-three matches were played among the teams from across the country in the first-ever national-level police sport meet to be hosted by Assam Police.

Ramesh Rawal of Uttar Pradesh Police was awarded the Kamal Nath Trophy for scoring the highest number of goals in the tournament. G. Thung of Nagaland Police was adjudged the best player and awarded the Chandra Mohan Ganju trophy. Megahalaya Police got the fair play trophy.
