C.K. Nayudu Trophy
Silchar, Nov. 10: A defiant 61-run knock by Sunzow Brahma helped Assam clinch an exciting victory in a plate group B encounter against Haryana in the C.K. Nayudu Trophy under-23 Cricket Tournament at Satindra Mohan Dev Stadium, here today.
Resuming at the overnight 66 for two, Brahma (61 off 142) and Dhrubajyoti Das (27 off 49) added a further 33 runs, when Das edged one to substitute N.S. Gupta off A.R. Rana. Brahma hit a cautious note and added another 47-run partnership with Roshan Alam (17 off 62) for the fourth wicket. Alam was sent back to the hut by P.B. Mehta to leave the hosts reeling at 146 for four.
Brahma was caught by S.R. Sharma off R.M. Saini with the Assam scorecard reading 182 for five, after he, along with middle-order batsman Romario Sharma, rescued the team by putting on a crucial 36-run partnership for the fifth wicket.
Sharma played a brilliant innings of an unbeaten 43 off 76, laced with three fours and two sixes. He kept his nerve, and in the company of Shuhel Rehman (17 off 34), took the hosts home in 74.2 overs.
The pick of the bowlers was Saini with the figures of three for 74 from 20 overs, while P.B. Mehta scalped two and Rana clinched one wicket.
Haryana showed a poor fielding performance and dropped as many as three catches and misseda run-out chance today, which allowed the hosts to register the victory.
