Guwahati, April 29: Bongaigaon sealed their place in the semi-finals of the second Umananda Bora Under-13 Inter District Cricket Tournament, defeating Goalpara by two wickets in the first quarter-final at Barsapara Cricket Stadium here today.
The Goalpara boys managed 124 runs before being all out in 36.5 overs. Abhishek Dey scored 25 runs off 34 deliveries, which featured three hits to the fence, while Inamul Haque chipped in with 17 runs off 29 balls, which included three boundaries.
Gourav Das with 15 runs off 36 deliveries and opener Gourav Thakuria with 14 runs off 42 balls were the only other batsmen to reach the double figure mark. The side received a total of 39 runs in extras. Offie Bishal Ray bagged three wickets going for 16 runs in his seven overs while Subhadeep Chakraborty picked up two wickets conceding 28 runs in 7.1 overs. Naman Saxena, Tritesh Bharodwaj, Siba Prasad and Jitumoni Roy took one wicket each.
In reply, Bongaigaon batsmen had to toil hard as the side went on to get past the target losing eight wickets in 39.3 overs. Opener Bishal Ray topscored with 30 runs off 64 balls which included four boundaries while lower order batsman Umesh Prasad remained not out with 15 runs off 31 deliveries. Sabir Hussain with 12 runs off 34 balls and Joydeep Bose with 11 runs off 75 deliveries were the other notable contributors for their side while they received 44 runs in extras. Gourav Thakuria was the pick of the Goalpara bowlers with four wickets to his kitty for 14 runs in his allotted eight overs while Anshuman Banikya scalped two for 22 runs in six overs.
Bajali will play Sivasagar on Thursday.
