Guwahati, Feb. 8: The 54th annual conference of the Bodo Sahitya Sabha will be held at the Socio Literary and Cultural Complex at Garchuk Ahomgaon on the outskirts of Guwahati on February 14 and 15.

The Sabha is hoping to take up a few of their concerns regarding Bodo language and education through the session which will be attended by Union minister for tribal affairs Jual Oram on its second day.

"We will inform Oram how Bodo-medium schools located in the forest areas were left out of the provincialisation process by Dispur on the pretext of not having their own land. The issue could have been resolved by Dispur by implementing the Scheduled Tribes and Other Traditional Forest Dwellers (Recognition of Forest Rights) Act, 2006. More than 150 schools were not provincialised in Sonitpur district alone," said Kamalakanta Mushahary, general secretary of the Sabha.

"Besides, we will also inform Oram how the Assam government has failed to utilise properly the central funds meant for the development of indigenous communities," Mushahary said.

The conference was earlier scheduled on January 22 and 23 but postponed because of the December 23 attack on Adivasis by NDFB (S).

After Asam Sahitya Sabha the Bodo Sahitya Sabha is the largest literary organisation of the state.

However, rift between the two bodies has grown over the years.
