Betkuchi boys to clash with Don Bosco - 10 teams participate in GSA meet

Guwahati, June 8: Betkuchi High School will clash with Don Bosco School, Maligaon, in the final of the Manindra Chandra Paul and Nabajyoti Bhuyan Guwahati Sports Association Inter-School Football Tournament at Nehru Stadium here on Wednesday.

In the semi-finals played today, the Betkuchi school defeated Army School, Basistha, 3-1 and Don Bosco School, Maligaon, got the better of Don Bosco School, Panbazar, 3-1.

In the first semi-final, the Army School boys dominated the first session with Dangmai finding the net for the lead in the 26th minute to lead 1-0 at breather of the 30-minute-a-half match.

The Betkuchi boys found the equaliser through Biswajit Injal through a penalty kick in the 43rd minute.

With parity restored, the Betkuchi boys went all out in the last 10 minutes of the match and found the lead through Suchitra Boro’s goal in the 53rd minute, which was further consolidated by Tultul Boro in the 58th minute.

Though the Army School boys put their best foot forward, it was too late and the opponents went on the defensive in the remaining two minutes of the game.

In the other match, the Maligaon Bosconians were superior to their Panbazar counterparts in skill as well as power.

Nathaniel Surin drew first blood in the 22nd minute to help the Maligaon school lead 1-0 at lemon break.

Santosh Kujur enhanced the lead in the 45th minute and Nathaniel Surin struck in the 48th minute to be eventually named the Best Player of the Match. Ruben Sangma netted the only goal for Don Bosco, Panbazar, in the last minute of the match.

Altogether 10 teams participated in the tournament organised since June 2.
