Imphal, June 27: H. Bechkar Singh made it to the quarter-final of the under-14 boys’ event of the IX Governor’s Trophy Tennis Championship at Officers’ Club Lamphelpat.
Bechkar Singh, taking on Sidhartha Singh, registered an easy win with a score of 4-0, 4-0 en route to the quarter-final.
Others who made it to the quarter-finals include Calvin Golmei who routed Ansuman by a game score of 4-0, 4-1.
Devasis Singh also had a relatively easy win, outplaying Varun Singh 4-0, 4-0.
Leonardo Singh also made it to the last eight stages, coming up with a game score of 4-0, 4-0 against Musha Singh.
In the under-14 girls’, Bunty Devi thrashed O. Monika Devi 4-1, 4-1 to book a quarter-final berth.
In the under-12 boys’ event, Musha Singh overcame Vikash Singh with a score of 4-2 and 5-4 (7-4) to storm into the quarter-final.
Calvin Golmei continued with his winning form in the lower-age category as well, outplaying Ansuman with a game score of 4-2, 4-0 point en route to the quarter-final.
Luching beat Derek in another league match 4-2, 5-3.
Veteran football
Tiddim Road Veteran Sporting Association beat Utlou Luksa by 2-1 goals in the 1st Ng. Shamu Memorial Veteran Football Tournament at Mlaom YWC ground.
Ranjit Singh and Dhiren Singh scored for Tiddim Road while Bole Singh fetched the lone goal for Utlou.
In another match, Kongpal ISVA blanked Lilong Chajing UVSA by two goals with Bochou Singh and Nongyailemba fetching the goal.
