Baokhungri festival begins

Thousands descended on Baokhungri hill, to celebrate Baokhungri festival, on the eve of Bwisagu or Bihu in Kokrajhar.

Kokrajhar, April 14: Thousands descended on Baokhungri hill, to celebrate Baokhungri festival, on the eve of Bwisagu or Bihu in Kokrajhar.

Young and old, men and women, irrespective of caste, creed and community, some carrying kham-siphung-serja-jabsring (Bodo traditional musical instruments) thronged the Baukhungri hill, 10km east of Kokrajhar town, at Harinaguri, since early morning.

Celebrated traditionally as Baokhungri Hajw gakhwnai (climbing of Baokhungri hill) by the Bodo people on the auspicious day of Sankranti, a day before Bwisagu or Bihu, the tourism department of the BTC has taken up to celebrate the traditionally customs as annual Baokhungri festival since three years back in a grand way, by introducing various adventure sports like trekking and food festival.
