Imphal, July 4: The court of the chief judicial magistrate, Bishnupur, today released Manipuri filmmaker Laimayum Surjakanta and actress Devita Devi on bail and a surety bond of Rs 30,000 each after police failed to substantiate the charges levelled against them.
The court said the police had not been able to substantiate the charges levelled against the two film personalities. It ruled that the charges against them were unreasonable. After coming out of court neither the actress nor her mother Urikhinbam Momon Devi made any comment.
Earlier, Devita’s mother had claimed that her daughter was innocent and did not have any link with militants.
Surjakanta said the court had freed him as he was innocent. “The court freed me as the police could not prove the charges levelled against me,” the award-winning film director said.
