Award for 10 stalwarts

Byatikram Mass Awareness and Social Development Organisation, a socio-cultural organisation, will confer the Byatikram Award to 10 successful personalities and organisations from different fields in a function at the Pragjyoti ITA Centre on Saturday.

Guwahati, Aug. 1: Byatikram Mass Awareness and Social Development Organisation, a socio-cultural organisation, will confer the Byatikram Award to 10 successful personalities and organisations from different fields in a function at the Pragjyoti ITA Centre on Saturday.

The function, being held in association with The Telegraph, will feature a performance by Joler Gaan, a folk band from Bangladesh known for their songs inspired by real life. The band participated in the 2006 edition of the World Sufi Festival in Scotland.

Hasan Arif, the general secretary of Sanmilito Sanskritik Jut of Bangladesh, will be honoured with the Kalika Prasad Bhattacharya Memorial Byatikram Cultural Ambassador Award.

Mizoram's Aizawl FC Club owner Robert R. Royte will be conferred the Byatikram Man of the Year Award.

The Byatikram Education Excellence Award will go to city-based educational institution Sai Vikash and its principal P.S. Reddy.

Chow Jalleng Mannou, an engineer from Arunachal Pra-desh working on flood protection, will get the Byatikram Exceptional Achiever Award.

Dr Pankaj Lochan Sharma, a well-known psychiatrist of the state working on rehabilitation of drug addicts, will be conferred with the Byatikram Exceptional Personality Award.

The Byatikram Social Service Award will be received by social worker and former Rotary Club of Tinsukia governor Kirti Ranjan Dey.

Author Nishuti Mazumdar, who writes in both Assamese and Bengali, will be honoured with the Byatikram Literary Award.

The Byatikram Youth Icon Award will be conferred on Rohit Das, founder of city-based Indian Institute of Banking and Information Technology.

Bishnu Prasad, working on better relations of India and the SAARC countries, will receive the Byatikram International Relations Award.

While announcing the awards, Byatikram president Saumen Bharatiya said, "Since several years our publishing wing Vicky Publishers has been celebrating the annual awards function. The functions in former years have been graced by celebrities and noted personalities. This year also, many prominent people from different fields like politics and social service, will attend the programme. Folk band Joler Gaan will be a prime attraction this year. A performance by Indian folk artiste Tina Ghoshal is also scheduled."

Group co-founder Mintu Kumar Gupta said, "There are many undiscovered talents in the Northeast. We have been awarding personalities from different fields since the past seven years to encourage the younger generation. We are especially glad to have chosen Aizawl FC owner Robert R. Royle as the team has set a benchmark for the region by winning the I-League championship."
