Guwahati, Oct. 11: Hosts Assam registered their second straight victory in the ongoing East Zone under-19 girls’ limited-overs cricket tournament, handing a six-wicket defeat to Jharkhand at Nehru Stadium here.

With the win, Assam have added another bonus point to tally 10 points from two matches, thus virtually in sight of a knockout level berth.

Jharkhand opted to bat and were skittled out for 46 in 40.2 overs, thanks to a four-wicket haul by India Blues pacer Monikha Das.

Assam girls achieved the meagre target losing four wickets in 18.3 overs.

Das hauled four, conceding nine runs off 9.2 overs.

M. Leima Chanu gave her able support with the scalp of three for 11.

Middle order bat Manorama Toppo (14) was the only Jharkhand batswoman to score in double figures.

For Assam, opener Deboshree Konwar topscored with a 21-run knock stealing singles and twos and 10 runs came in as extras.

Pooja Kumari of Jharkhand notched up two wickets for eight runs.

In another match at the NF Railway stadium, Maligaon, today, Tripura inflicted a 28-run defeat on Orissa for their second straight win in the tournament, thus carving the way for themselves to the knockouts.

Tripura elected to bat and posted 108 for eight in the stipulated 50 overs. In their chase, Orissa were all out for 80 in 40.1 overs.

For Tripura, Rita Debbarma scored 18 and Sulakshana Roy 13.

Sushree Dibyadarshini Pradhan of Orissa picked up two wickets for 20 runs while Sujata Mallick and Swagatika Rath shared one each.

Swagatika Rath also topscored for Orissa with 38 (4x5) and P.P. Mohanty chipped in with 13.

Moutushi Dey of Tripura notched up four wickets for 15 runs.

Rita Debbarma and Annapurna Das took two wickets each for 13 and 20 respectively.

With the win, Tripura, too, tallied a bonus point to take their tally to 10 from two matches.

On Thursday, Jharkhand will play Orissa at Maligaon and Tripura meet Bengal at Nehru Stadium.
