Assam Valley student electrocuted

Guwahati, June 20: A Class X student of Assam Valley School, Balipara, was electrocuted while playing his guitar in the music room of the school this evening.

According to a source at the school, the incident happened at 5pm when the student, Ranbeer Das, was trying to connect his electric guitar with the amplifier during an activity-practice session in the music room.

“The boy fell on the floor after he was electrocuted. He was senseless and immediately rushed in a school ambulance to Mission Chariali Hospital in Tezpur, where doctors declared him brought dead,” the source said.

Balipara in Sonitpur district is about 21km from Tezpur.

The source said Ranbeer’s father, Debajit Das, who is an ENT specialist at the Assam Medical College and Hospital, Dibrugarh, was on his way to the school with his family.
Another source, associated with the school headmaster’s office, confirmed the incident but refused to elaborate as details as to what actually happened were still being gathered.

Sonitpur superintendent of police A. Tiwari has also  confirmed the incident.

A police team has carried out a preliminary investigation at the site.

The Assam Valley School, founded in 1995 by the Williamson Magor Education Trust, is rated among the 20 best residential schools in the country.

The school, spread over a sprawling area of 95 hectares, has over 800 students.
