Assam take innings lead

Guwahati, Oct. 23: Jitumoni Kalita and Ridip Mohan’s fine show with the ball ensured Assam a first innings lead of 28 runs as they went on to bundle out Jharkhand for 137 runs in reply to their 165 runs.

Resuming at an overnight score of 56 runs for the loss of three wickets in 26 overs, visitors Jharkhand were all out for 137 runs in 84.3 overs.

Shresth Sagar and Shrestha Kumar, who consolidated the position for Jharkhand after facing three early blows on Day One of the three-day match yesterday, remained the only batsmen to reach the double-figure mark. Shresth Sagar, who was at the crease with 23 runs off 78 deliveries, was out for 29 runs off 102 balls while Shrestha Kumar was the top-scorer for his side with 46 runs off 131 deliveries.

Jitumoni Kalita picked up four wickets, conceding 24 runs in his 23.3 overs while Ridip Mohan scalped four wickets going for 27 runs in his 16 overs. Riyan Parag and Amlanjyoti Das took one wicket each.

Coming in to bat in their second innings, Assam were 65 for the loss of four wickets in 43 overs till stumps were drawn for the day.

Riyan Parag scored 30 runs off 127 deliveries while Amlanjyoti Das contributed 14 runs off 83 balls.

Saahil Jain was in the middle with eight runs off 22 deliveries while Hrishikesh Das was at the other end without opening his account till the end of the second day’s play.

Aditya Singh picked up two wickets conceding 10 runs from his 11 overs while Shailesh Kumar, Chandan Mukhi and Apurva Anand scalped one wicket each.

The 71st All-India Railway Football Championship in league basis will be held at NF Railway Stadium in Maligaon and Railway Football Stadium, Pandu here from October 29.

Athletics exams: The Athletics Federation of India is going to hold the federation’s technical official examination in Ranchi from November 21 to 23. The last date for receipt of applications has been fixed for October 31.

Karate meet: The Ranjit Nongthang 8th Assam state Wado Karate Championship will be held at Tinsukia District Sports Association indoor hall on October 25 and 26.

Meetings: A governing body meeting and a special general meeting of the Assam Athletics Association will be held at the Assam Olympic Association conference hall here on November 9.
