Assam Rangers in IJPL

Guwahati, Sept. 26: Assam Rangers from Guwahati will be one of the 16 teams of the 1st Indian Junior Players League (IJPL) T20 cricket Tournament, commencing on December 7.

The 15 players for the team will be selected through a trial here from November 4 to 13.

"Players from 12 to 18 years will be eligible to register for the trial. The players will be selected by a team comprising BCCI- accredited coaches and Ranji Trophy players. The camp will be held here in Assam, but players from all the states of the Northeast will be eligible," said Sampat Roy, executive director of Grace India Sports Private Limited which, in association with Fitness World, will organise the tournament. The registration fee for participation is, however, fairly steep at Rs 5,555.

"The selected players will be taken to Mumbai where they will be mentored by the international cricketers like Wasim Akram, Shoaib Akhtar, Kieren Pollard, Jonty Rhodes and Indian cricketers Rishi Dhawan and Paras Dogra," Roy said.

India international Gautam Gambhir is the brand ambassador for the tournament.

Besides Guwahati, camps will be held in 21 other cities for 15 other teams.

The winners will get a cash reward of Rs 21 lakh while the Man of the Series will get an opportunity to play with in England county cricket.
