Inter-school cricket

Guwahati, May 15: Little Angels School and Fairyland High School today posted convincing wins in their respective league matches of the second Dipika Saikia and Dhan Sena Sinha inter-school cricket tournament at Latasil Ground here.

In a Group-B match, Little Angels sailed past Silver Oak High School by four wickets while Fairyland got the better of Purvanchal Vidyapith by 73 runs to book a berth in the second round of Group-C.

In the first match of the day, Silver Oak, put to bat first, were sent packing with 77 runs on the scoreboard in 19.5 overs. The Little Angels team took just 11.4 overs to win the match, scoring 81 runs for six wickets.

Ashok Yadav, who contributed 20 runs, was the only notable scorer for Silver Oak, while Sonu Sinha and Amit Biswas of Little Angels shared three wickets each, conceding 14 and 18 runs respectively. Ganesh Rao also claimed two wickets for three runs.

Amit Biswas proved useful with the bat too, topscoring for Little Angels with an unbeaten 31, to be eventually adjudged Man of the Match. Romesh Mahato contributed 23 runs to the Little Angels? tally. Chandan Sahani of Silver Oak captured two for 21.

In the afternoon tie, Purvanchal Vidyapith restricted the Fairyland boys to 187 for nine in 20 overs but managed to glean only 114 for five in their run chase.

Fairyland rode an unbeaten half-century by Romario M. Sharma while 93 runs came in as extras. Sharma?s 59-run knock comprised seven hits to the ropes. He was eventually named Man of the Match. Manas Basumatary of Purvanchal scalped three wickets for 25 runs.

For Purvanchal, Birdug Doley remained unbeaten, topscoring with 32. Raju Master of Fairyland captured two wickets for 18 runs.

In tomorrow?s matches, Srimanta Sankar Academy will be pitted against Modern Academy and Cotton Collegiate HS School play Gurunanak High School.
