Guwahati, May 25: West Bengal girl Amrita Mukherjee today annexed a double crown in the OIL-AITA Super Series (under-14) Tennis championship that concluded at the All Assam Tennis Association’s Chachal Complex.
She won both the girls’ singles and doubles titles. Moving ahead from a set down, Amrita fought out a gruelling three-hour final to vanquish top seed Anushka Bhargava of Andhra Pradesh 3-6, 7-6 (4), 6-3.
For the doubles win, Amrita teamed up with Seeulee K. Upadhaya of Orissa to dismiss the Andhra Pradesh combination of B. Sowjanya and Anushka Bhargava 0-6, 7-5, 6-0.
Top seed Surya Pavan of Andhra pradesh clinched the boys’ singles title, defeating fifth seed local lad Manab Kumar Chakma 6-7 (3), 6-3, 6-4.
The home pair of Rupam Gogoi and Trinayan Talukdar reaped laurels for the hosts, claiming the boys’ doubles title, outplaying Surya Pavan and Suraj Kanwar 6-1, 7-5.
The prizes were given away by the vice-president of the association, Tapan Baruah, and joint secretary Prasanta Das, among others.
