Jorhat, Dec. 19: It’s the words of a former legislator against a sitting one.
On Saturday, former Golaghat MLA and senior AGP leader Atul Bora lodged an FIR at Bokakhat police station against Bokakhat (sub-division of Golaghat district) MLA Jiten Gogoi saying Gogoi had warned him not to hold any party meeting within Bokakhat.
Bora, in his complaint to the police, alleged that on Friday, Gogoi, an Independent MLA, had warned Bora not to enter Bokakhat and campaign for a TV news channel.
The AGP leader alleged that Gogoi had said he would by “all means” not allow Bora to hold meetings in the constituency being represented by him.
Bora also alleged that during the course of the conversation, Gogoi, a former Ulfa militant, had issued a threat to his life if he organised any meeting at Bokakhat. On Sunday, Gogoi lodged an FIR at the police station against Bora alleging that the AGP leader in various meetings in recent times, had spoken against him and the NGO, Bokakhat Nirman Goot, of which he is the president.
Gogoi alleged that Bora in his speeches had not only threatened him, but also threatened the members of the NGO. He urged the police to take necessary steps against the former MLA, who was also the former president of the All Assam Students’ Union.
A police official of the Bokakhat police station said no case had been registered so far on the complaints of the leaders and an investigation was on for both the FIRs.
Attempts to contact both the complainants failed, as neither answered the calls on their mobile phones.
Gogoi, who had been consecutively elected to the Bokakhat seat for two terms since 2001, had courted several controversies.
Last year, he was in the eye of a storm after he allegedly manhandled a senior official of Kaziranga National Park, which is located off Bokakhat town.
The incident happened when the official prevented Gogoi and another Independent MLA, Kushal Deuri, also a former Ulfa militant, from fishing in a lake inside the park. The police later arrested Gogoi, who had initially absconded.
