In Dibrugarh, the election will be conducted for 23 zilla parishads, seven anchalik panchayats, 93 village panchayats and 930 wards.

Speaking to reporters at the party’s office here, the AGP’s Dibrugarh district president, Punakon Barua, claimed they will show better results in the panchayat election this time.

“Corruption and anomalies were rampant at the panchayat level during the 15 years of Congress rule. We will try to clean the panchayat of corrupt members by showing better results in the upcoming election. We have given tickets to our candidates who we feel will dedicate themselves to development,” he said.

“We have decided to go solo in the panchayat election because we are positive that we will fare well,” Barua said

He said the issue of Citizenship (Amendment) Bill, 2016, will play an important role in the panchayat election. “We have given tickets to our candidates on the basic of their work and dedication for our party. We are a regional party and our priority is to strengthen regionalism,” Barua added.

BJP list: Assam BJP president Ranjeet Kumar Dass released its first list of candidates for 160 zilla parishad posts in Guwahati on Tuesday.

The counting for the panchayat poll will take place on December 12.
