Abhilekh bags title

Abhilekh Mahanta clinched the 10th edition of the GTC Chess Grand Prix 2015 held at Gauhati Town Club here yesterday.

Guwahati, Nov. 16: Abhilekh Mahanta clinched the 10th edition of the GTC Chess Grand Prix 2015 held at Gauhati Town Club here yesterday.

Nitish Das and Tridev Buragohain were placed second and third respectively.

Abninav Dubey, an under-9 unrated player and trainee of the GTC Chess Foundation, was the star performer of the day, securing seventh position in the under-19 category.

Altogether 45 players participated in the daylong event. The tournament was played in the under-9 and under-19 categories.

P.C. Borooah chess: Arkaprabha Rajkonwar and Unimilita Pathak were crowned champions in the under-13 and under-9 categories respectively in the P.C. Borooah Selection Chess Tournament organised by P.C. Borooah Chess Academy here yesterday.

Arkaprabha scored 6.5 points from seven rounds for the under-13 title. Unmilita, too, scored 6.5 points from seven rounds to annex the under-9 title.

Altogether 36 players from different schools of the city participated in the tournament, played in the Swiss league format.
