Shillong: Police arrested four persons in connection with the loot of over Rs 39 lakh from an ATM kiosk in Meghalaya's West Garo Hills district, a senior police officer said on Sunday.
The main accused, Vijay Debnath, an employee of a private company engaged to deposit cash in the kiosk, was picked up from his rented house and the stolen money was recovered, the officer said.
"We arrested four persons involved in the conspiracy. Interrogation is on," the superintendent of police, West Garo Hills, R. Kumar, said.
Debnath was responsible for filling the cash in the vaults of the SBI ATM machines. Police arrested him and three others for their alleged role in the heist that took place on Tuesday, the superintendent said.
On October 18, Rs 41 lakh went missing from an SBI ATM at the Tura Super Market. The CCTV footage of the ATMs confirmed the involvement of the accused. The four accused had taken over Rs 39 lakh from the ATM and in their hurry, abandoned Rs 1.5 lakh in the machine. PTI
