May 10: The Kamrup district administration has evolved a three-tier mechanism for smooth counting of votes in the Guwahati parliamentary constituency on Thursday.
City police and district administration officials held a high-level security meeting this evening to give final touches to the security blueprint chalked out for May 13.
Returning officer Samir Sinha said the three-tier mechanism included infrastructure creation, training of manpower and security. The final refresher course for officials and employees engaged with the poll process will be held tomorrow to clear their doubts and queries on the use of EVMs for counting.
Asserting that the counting would be completed before sunset, Sinha said 119 tables would be installed both at the Manik Chandra Baruah administrative building and Sudmerson Hall of Cotton College for counting of votes. Each table will be under the supervision of a counting supervisor and counting assistant.
City police has been entrusted with the job of security, Sinha said. Two CRPF platoons have been deployed at the Sudmerson Hall and Manik Chandra Baruah administrative building of the college for round-the-clock surveillance and 60 Assam police personnel in civil dress will patrol the campus.
A mobile city police squad will keep vigil in the college till counting is over. Entry into Cotton College Road will be restricted on Thursday. The college campus will be made out of bounds, barring poll officials, contestants, poll agents, security personnel and journalists.
