3 Assam players in semis

Three Assam players - Kristi Boro, Udit Gogoi and Anchit Gogoi - stormed into the semi-finals of the ongoing OIL-AITA Super Series Tennis Tournament at the All-Assam Tennis Association Complex here today.

OIL-AITA SUPER SERIES

Guwahati, July 13: Three Assam players - Kristi Boro, Udit Gogoi and Anchit Gogoi - stormed into the semi-finals of the ongoing OIL-AITA Super Series Tennis Tournament at the All-Assam Tennis Association Complex here today.

While Kristi entered the girls' singles under-12 round of four, Udit and Anchit have made it to the semi-finals of boys' under-14 and under-12 singles respectively.

In the quarter-finals played today, Kristi eased past Radhika Mahajan of Maharashtra 6-0, 6-1.

In the semi-final, she will meet Shrichandrakala Tentu of Tamil Nadu. Poorvi Bhatt of Uttar Pradesh will meet Vidhi Nimesh Jani of Gujarat in the other semi-final.

Kristi went down fighting against Ayushi Singh of Bihar in the under-14 quarter-finals. Ayushi won 1-6, 6-4, 6-1 after Kristi lost her tempo mid-way through the second set.

Bhakti Shah of Telangana, Mushrath Shaik of Andhra Pradesh and Adithi Venkatakrishi of Tamil Nadu are the other semi-finalists in the category.

In the round of eight, Bhakti got the better of Adithi Are of the same state 6-4, 6-1, Mushrath eased past Swarnali Ghosh of West Bengal 6-2, 6-3 and Adithi defeated Poorvi 6-2, 6-4.

In the boys' courts, Anchit made short work of Karthik Vedepalli of Tamil Nadu 6-2, 6-0 in the under-12 quarters, while Udit dropped a set in the middle to overcome state mate Anurag Buragohain 6-1, 2-6, 6-3 in the under-14 quarters.

Anchit is joined by Manipur lad Rahul Pamei, Ayush P. Bhatt of Karnataka and Nitish Naluswami of Tamil Nadu in the round of four.

In the quarters, Rahul beat Arunesh Borah of Assam 6-4, 6-2, Ayush overcame Telangana lad Siddharth Veda Reddy 7-5, 6-2 and Nitish made short work of Gujarat opponent Dhanush N. Patel 6-1, 6-1.

In the other under-14 boys' singles quarter-final matches, Amaan Wasim of West Bengal got the better of Vishisht Raam of Tamil Nadu 6-2, 2-6, 6-1, Karan Parashar of Haryana tamed Shreejit Sen of Maharashtra 6-0, 6-3 and Sanjith Devineni of Karnataka prevailed over Ashish Sinha of West Bengal 6-3, 6-4.

School football: The Assam directorate of sports will organise the Pilik Choudhury inter-school (under-14) boys' football tournament at Nehru Stadium here from Saturday to Tuesday. The Dewkon Trophy inter-school (under-17) boys' football tournament will also be held at the same venue from July 21 to 24. The champion teams will represent Assam in the Subroto Cup national school tournament.

Kickboxing: The first edition of All Assam Inter-College Kickboxing Championship and the fifth All-Assam Inter-School Kickboxing Championship, organised by the Assam Kickboxing Association, will get under way at Pragjyotyish College here from Friday.
