24 names in third APSC chargesheet

Dibrugarh police on Thursday filed a chargesheet against 24 officers of Assam Civil Service , Assam Police Service and allied services who were arrested on charges of securing jobs thro-ugh the Assam Public Service Commission by paying bribes.

Guwahati: Dibrugarh police on Thursday filed a chargesheet against 24 officers of Assam Civil Service , Assam Police Service and allied services who were arrested on charges of securing jobs thro-ugh the Assam Public Service Commission by paying bribes.

The chargesheet was filed at the special court, Assam, here under Sections 12 and 13 (2) of the Prevention of Corruption Act, 1988 and Sections 109 (abetment), 120B (criminal conspiracy), 420 (cheating), 465 (forgery of record of court or of public register), 468 (forgery for purpose of cheating), 471 (using a forged document as genuine) and 201 (causing disappearance of evidence) of the IPC.

This is the third chargesheet filed by police in connection with the APSC recruitment scam.

The accused officers chargesheeted on Thursday are ACS officers Pallabi Sarma Choudhury, Nisha Moni Deka, Dipak Khanikar, Debajit Bora, Himangshu Choudhury, Kunal Das, Kamal Debnath, Geetali Doley, Rajarshi Sen Deka, Rumi Saikia, Anirudh Roy and Dwaithun Borgoyary, APS officers Sabbira Imran, Harsha Jyoti Bora, Hemanta Saikia, Jatindra Prasad Baruah and Badrul Islam Choudhury, Jayanta Kumar Nath, Dilip Kumar Kalita besides allied services officers Sudipta Goswami, Amarjit Das, Raju Saha, Sunayana Aidew and Jyotirmoy Adhikary.

All of them were arrested in the latest crackdown launched by the police on November 9 last year. #The court asked the police to obtain the sanction for prosecution of these officials from the competent authority and submit the same in the court. The police informed the court that they have applied for the prosecution sanction and it is awaited.

Names of 13 accused figured on the last two charge-sheets filed by the police include deposed APSC chairman Rakesh Kumar Paul.

The special court on Thursday also rejected the bail plea of Nisha Moni Deka considering the materials against her and gravity of the offence.

The court directed the jail authorities to look after her three-month-old son properly and asked GMCH superintendent to depute a paediatrician to examine the baby as and when necessary.

The court also directed the police to submit a status report on the ongoing investigation into the case by February 22.
