
Dhemaji/Tinsukia, March 16: The Dhemaji district administration this evening announced lifting of night curfew at Silapathar town in the Upper Assam district as another member of the Nikhil Bharat Bangali Udbastu Samanway Samitee (Nibbuss) was arrested this morning.
However, pressure groups decided to spread the agitation demanding the arrest of Samitee president Subodh Biswas to other parts of the state with the launch of a rail blockade at Chabua in adjoining Dibrugarh district this evening.
The Samitee's Dhemaji district unit vice-president Sadhan Biswas, 35, accused of fomenting trouble in Silapathar on March 6, was arrested from his residence at Number 2 Kashinath Chapori Mishing Gaon near Majarbari under Silapathar police station this morning, taking the total to 49.
Two more persons were arrested from Majarbari area yesterday.
Talking to The Telegraph, Dhemaji superintendent of police Nilesh Sawakare said night curfew was lifted from this evening keeping in view return of normalcy to Silapathar in the past two days. The administration had earlier lifted an indefinite curfew, imposed on March 10, on Tuesday.
The Tinsukia district unit of AASU held a joint meeting today with 18 student bodies, including Asom Jatiyatavadi Yuba Chatra Parishad, All Tai Ahom Students Union, Ahom Sena and All Muttock Students' Union, to chalk out a further strategy to protest against the failure of the government to arrest Subodh Biswas. They decided to stage a rail blockade on Saturday, a black flag demonstration at state government establishments on Monday and a people's march on Wednesday.

Samitee organisational secretary Binoy Biswas, who was arrested on Monday, has been sent to five-day police remand since yesterday. Police have claimed that it was helping them make rapid progress in the investigation.
On the arrest Subodh Biswas, Sawakare said a search operation was on and he would soon be arrested.
Trouble broke out on March 6 evening following an attack on an AASU office at Silapathar, allegedly by a group that attended a Samitee rally seeking removal of the D-voter tag from the names of Bengali Hindus in the electoral rolls.
