Oh, joy! Dig into a Poila Baisakh feast with Oh! Calcutta’s curated menu and special meal boxes

The fine-dine Bengali restaurant brand is wooing diners with old favourites and new flavours from April 13 to 15

To celebrate Poila Baisakh, this year, like every other year, Oh! Calcutta has curated an array of traditional Bengali delicacies. The sumptuous buffet begins with some mouthwatering starters, heading on to a traditional main course, and ending with some delectable sweet delights. In addition to the buffet, a special meal box has also been curated.

While the signature dishes of Oh! Calcutta — like Kosha Mangsho, Kancha Lonka Murgi, Calcutta Fish Fry, etc., will be available — dishes like Tok Jhal Broccoli Roast, Phulkopir Mughlai Curry, Chingri Aam Kasundi, Alu Bokhara Chutney, Bonder Payesh have also been added to tantalise diners’ taste buds a little more.

Speaking about the menu, chef Kinkshuk Kundu said, “We usually try to maintain a traditional menu for Poila Baisakh. Along with that, this year, we have added a little twist to some items like Tok Jhal Broccoli Roast, where we have used raw mango. We have also made Phulkopir Mughlai Curry. This curry is usually made with fish or meat, but here we have served it as a vegetarian item. It is a mixture of curd, saffron, almond and other ingredients to give it a rich texture. We have included Alu Bokhara Chutney this year. Raw mango chutney or Khejur Aamsotto Chutney is pretty common, so we decided to do something else.

Speaking about the special menu, Debasish Ghosh, general manager of Speciality Restaurants, said, “ We have not done too much experimentation, but have tried to put up food that was there long ago. We have introduced some new items like Chitol Macher Muithya and Chingri Aam Kasundi along with our signature ones. We have made some small changes to dishes — like adding a lot of black pepper in our chicken tikka, but have not made huge ones. There are many restaurants that serve Bengali food. Each one will have something special. People come to Oh! Calcutta for their signature dishes, for authentic Bengali cuisine. Hence we have not made a lot of big changes.”

The special meal box has vegetarian and non-vegetarian options. The non-veg meal box will have fish fry, Murgi fry, Rui Kalia, Chingri Malai Curry, Kosha Murgi, Chholar Dal, Alu Bhaja, Kaju Kismish Pulao, Tawa Lachha Paratha, Tomato Khejurer Chutney and Malpua with Rabri. The vegetarian box will have Mochar Chop, Chana Koraishutir Chop, Alur Dum, Til Lonkar Torkari, Koraishutir Dhokar Dalna, Chholar Dal, Alu Bhaja, Kaju Kismish Pulao, Tawa Lachha Paratha, Tomato Khejurer Chutney and Malpua with Rabri. The boxes are priced at Rs 2,950 and Rs 2,650, respectively, plus taxes. The boxes will be available from April 13 to 15 and serve two.

The buffet is available at the outlets of Oh! Calcutta at Forum Mall on Elgin Road and at Silver Spring (5 JBS Haldane Avenue). Priced at Rs 1,395 plus taxes the buffet is available on April 13 (lunch only), April 14 (lunch and dinner) and April 15 (lunch only).
