Jamshedpur, April 4: Namita Yadav has left a lasting impression at the first leg of the World Cup Archery Championships that began yesterday at Santo Domingo in Dominican Republic.

Not only has Namita put up a superb performance at the event, she has even superseded the more experienced Jhano Hansda and Bhagyabati Chanhu.

The three archers are from Jharkhand.

At the event, Namita is at the 15th position in the compound section while Jhano has secured the 21st position and Bhagyabati is at the 35th slot.

Her achievement is not a small feat, said officials of the state archery body, praising the student of city-based KMPM Inter College.

Coaches at the Tata Archery Academy — Dharmendra Tiwari and Harendra Kumar — believe that it is the mental toughness of the archer that has helped her scale new heights every time she picks up the bow. The coaches said that it is a positive sign that such a young girl is displaying so much of mental toughness.

“The only thing is that she has to be consistent,” said Tiwari.

Her consistent performance over the past few years has immensely helped her in securing a place in the Indian contingent for two world cups.

While the first event is going on at Dominican Republic, the second one would start at Porec in Croatia on April 15.

Namita is a national champion in the senior section. She was also the women’s compound individual champion at the recently concluded South Asian archery championships.

She should do well in academics also. She should strike a good balance between the game and studies, said her well wishers.

Namita is the daughter of a Tata Steel employee. She has three sisters and a brother.
