Dhanbad, April 15: A magistrate's court issued a non-bailable arrest warrant against Singh mansion patriarch Ramadhir Singh on Wednesday in a 2009 case pertaining to the alleged attack on the vehicle of filmstar Mahima Choudhary while she was campaigning in the district on November 23 for Assembly elections.

The court of first class judicial magistrate Rajeev Kumar also heard and recorded the statement of his nephew, Jharia MLA Sanjeev Singh, who is an accused in the same case. He was accompanied by his mother, former MLA Kunti Singh, and 11 other co-accused.

Ramadhir, who is now chairman of the district board of Balia in Uttar Pradesh and is undergoing treatment at a hospital in Delhi, was held guilty of the 1998 murder of trade union leader Vinod Singh on April 9.

A judgement in the car attack case is likely on May 11, the scheduled date of the final hearing.

That day in November 2009, clashes broke out between supporters of Congress's Jharia candidate Late Suresh Singh and BJP's Kunti Singh at 1.30pm. Over 1,000 supporters of each party came charging at each other from opposite ends of Katras More in Jharia.

Suresh and Mahima Chaudhary, who was campaigning for him, were on a truck, which was allegedly attacked by supporters of Kunti Singh with lathis, hockey sticks and iron rods.

Dozens of Congress as well as BJP supporters were injured in the violence that followed.

Two separate cases were lodged in Jharia police station: one (334/09) on violation of prohibitory orders under Section 144 and Section 188 of IPC and another (333/09) on the damage to the truck.

As many as 16 people, including Sanjeev Singh, were named accused in the case on violation of Section 144 lodged by Jharia police station officer in Charge Nasrullah Khan.

In the other case, lodged by Suresh Singh for the damage of the truck in which they were travelling, five persons, including Sanjeev, his uncle Ramadhir and cousin Sashi, were named accused.
