Jamshedpur: Students across the steel city expressed their creativity with words during the annual Albert Barrow All India Inter-School Creative Writing Competition on Thursday.
Organised annually by the Council for the Indian School Certificate Examinations, Delhi, Classes IX and X students from 20 city schools took part in the Category II competition at Rajendra Vidyalaya in Sakchi, while Classes XI and XII students from 21 schools took part under Category I at Tarapore School in Agrico.
Some of the participating schools were Loyola School, Sacred Heart Convent School, Hill Top School, Gulmohur High School, Dayanand Public School, DBMS English School and Narbheram Hansraj English School.
Students had to write a piece between 750 and 1000 words in an hour on topics given to them by the Council. The answer scripts were then forwarded to the Council for evaluation.
Some of the topics were 'The manner in which the subjects you learnt at school shaped you', 'Education is still a privilege for a few,' 'The Internet has overtaken the library,' and 'I dare to dream of the impossible.'
"The creative writing competition is one of the many initiatives taken by the Council to provide a platform to students to showcase their creativity and linguistic skills," said Rakhi Banerjee, principal of Rajendra Vidyalaya.
The best essays will later be featured in a special publication by the Council.
In another event, students of Kerala Public School, Kadma, conducted a safety drive titled 'Drive Safe Be Safe' outside their school to ensure commuters, especially parents, wear helmets and seat belts. While 'thank you' stickers were given to people wearing helmets, stickers with safety messages were handed over to traffic violators.
