Have you done a Vivekananda statue before?
Yes. My father and I finished a bronze statue at Swami Vivekananda memorial in Nagpur in December 2016
Are you working on anything else?
No. This will be our first project in Jharkhand. We are a group of 10, headed by my father, Ram Sutar
Tell us something about your style?
For us, expression and character is very important while crafting a sculpture. For instance, in case of Gandhiji, we have tried to depict him in a meditative mood like the 16-feet-tall bronze statue in Parliament
Who has been your biggest influence?
My father. I am working with my father since 1994 and also running the Ram Sutar Art Creations at Noida
Where did you study?
I did bachelor of architecture from School of Planning and Architecture, New Delhi. After that, I completed my masters (in architecture and urban design) from Washington University
Do you mentor youngsters?
These days, students seem inclined towards modern art. Sculpting requires a lot of patience and not many seem interested
Any international projects?
I have a few in the US, West Asia and Nigeria. In the US, we are working on a 6ft bronze statue of Gandhi at Bellevue

Your most challenging assignment?
Every statue we craft is a challenge. The Gandhi statue in Parliament was definitely one of them. This apart, we are going to design a 395ft sculpture of Chhatrapati Shivaji in the Arabian Sea (Mumbai). We will design a pedestal that will include a museum. This will be a Herculean task
The project closest to you?
All. But, if you ask for one, then it must be the 522ft statue of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel we are working on in Gujarat.
