Jamshedpur, Nov. 26: A team of district police officials will be leaving for Hyderabad shortly, to investigate a case of car-lifting. A tip-off that a Maruti car stolen from the city was seized in Andhra Pradesh two days ago seems to be the apparent reason for the officials’ journey.
The Andhra police have also arrested eight persons while recovering the stolen Maruti car. According to sources in the police department, the Hyderabad crime branch has informed the district police about the seizure of the stolen Maruti car and the corresponding arrest. The Hyderabad crime branch has also expressed suspicion that those arrested may be members of a gang of inter-state car-lifters.
Sources said the Maruti car that has been seized in Hyderabad was stolen from Telco area last year but the identity of the owner is unknown. When contacted, the officer-in-charge of Telco police station said they are yet to get details about the seized car.
He said that he would be leaving for Hyderabad soon to verify the car and identify those arrested.
He said he would interrogate the accused in connection with other cases of car thefts registered with Telco police station over the past three years.
The officer-in-charge said the district police expect to bust a gang of inter-state car lifters and any revelation of details or names about those arrested in Hyderabad would spoil the chance.
According to sources, over two dozen cars have been stolen from the East Singhbhhum district in the past year but the police expects to solve some of the cases of car-theft after interrogating those arrested in Hyderabad.
