Cuttack, Sept. 19: A PIL seeking a CBI probe into dubious land transfers in Bhubaneswar has threatened to expose an alleged scam involving state officials.
The petition alleges that hundreds of acres of prime government land had been transferred to private parties on the production of false land records. Bibhudatta Panda, advocate at Orissa High Court, filed the PIL on Monday.
Panda accused several government officials, including three former members of the board of revenue, of facilitating the transfer of land by validating forged records.
The PIL comes at a time when the general administration department has identified 94 cases in which ownership of hundreds of acres of government land was claimed allegedly on the basis of forged land records.
Though the department officials were tightlipped, sources said the land records were prepared to “hoodwink” the authorities.
The department had asked the CID crime branch to probe the matter.
