Jamshedpur, July 25: If things go according to plan, small-scale industries of Adityapur Industrial Area would soon boast of an international clientele.

Engineering Export Promotion Council, India, would organise a series of engineering exhibitions and road shows in Malaysia between September 25 and 27 and in China between November 4 and 9 to promote Indian products in a global market.

“Although it is not a road show in the literal sense of the term, we prefer to call it so because we have hit the roads and come out of our shells by pursuing newer clients and venturing into the global market. The best possible way to sell a product is by getting noticed by the right client and that is possible only by taking ourselves out of the comfort zone,” said S. Banerjee, the assistant director of the export council (eastern region).

“We thought of organising our first show in Malaysia as the country is ready to lower their import duties by 5 per cent for Indian products.

“This is the best time to take advantage of the opportunity. And according to our research, China will import more than they export in near future,” said Banerjee.

The products that may be exhibited in the show are automobile parts, pharmaceutical items, textile, food processing machinery, moulds and dyes, hardware, electrical equipment, stainless steel items and agricultural machinery. Though similar initiatives were taken up in the past, there was less participation of state traders in such efforts.

“This year we are expecting at least 25 companies from the eastern region to take part,” said Banerjee.

However, he explained that there were reasons behind the low turnout at such shows.

“The first reason is that the companies have a fixed clientele in the region.

“Again, formalities of participating in such events are complicated. This year we plan to make things simpler,” said S.N. Thakur, president of ASIA.
