Dhanbad, Nov. 13: Want a winsome figure like Kareena Kapoor? Shun fast food. This was the tip from a Dhanbad doctor on the eve of World Diabetes Day.

N.K. Singh, who has long been inspiring people to battle the disease through his website www.dhrcindia.com has also launched a poster campaign. And it goes without saying that he is using the Bollywood bombshell’s enviable vital statistics to drive home his point.

Posters of Kareena, whose latest venture Golmaal Returns has earned rave reviews, have swamped Dhanbad, with Singh advocating the two reasons behind her awesome figure — yoga and vegetarian diet. Both can help beat diabetes, he said.

To spread awareness among the masses about the disease that can even kill, a rally will be taken out here tomorrow. Participants would march through the thoroughfares before the rally culminates at Abhay Sundri Girls’ School, where a special awareness programme for students has been planned.

In June this year, Singh had launched a diabetes website in Hindi that recorded the largest number of hits. The website gives information on anything and everything concerning diabetes — from symptoms and dietary role to prevention and control. It also jots down the effect of cigarettes on a diabetic. In the first week after its launch on June 18, the site recorded more than 45,000 hits.

The international version of the website is no less popular among people of Indian origin living abroad. The site was launched in Amman, Jordan, on August 28. So far, more than one lakh people from across the globe have visited the site.

Non-resident Bhojpuris in New York and London have expressed their interest, too. Buoyed by the success of the website, Singh plans to launch it in Mauritius soon.

Revealing the cause behind his crusade, Singh said that India had emerged as the diabetic capital of the world, with the largest number of cases being reported from the Hindi heartland.

Singh said it took him 10 years to write and collect articles for the site. Most of the articles have been taken from his book, Madhumeh Bachao aur Niyantran.

On his recent drive in schools, Singh said that adolescents were fast falling prey to the disease. He said awareness campaigns were being launched in different private and government schools across the district.

“Children are being tipped on diet and physical activities. We do not want them to battle the disease at such a tender age. Prevention is always better than cure,” he said.
