Jamshedpur, June 15: Ever heard of junk jewellery made of paper, which you can team up with your formal wear, salwar kameez or sari?

No, this is not flimsy. Jeweller L. Naveena Singh has introduced this new line of jewellery to the steel city residents.

Without any formal training in jewellery designing, it is her penchant for experiment that made her come up with such an innovative jewellery.

Singh first sketches her imagination on art paper pasted on a mount board then she cuts out the design and fills the pieces with bright colours.

But the crucial part is the drying of fabric or acrylic colours, which generally takes more than a day.

These light-weight accessories can be worn with your pretty black dress or exquisitely designed sari.

What set her pieces apart is her designs. The classical intricate design will go best with the ethnic wear while the modern sleek ones would do good to the formal wear.

Singh has currently restricted her range to earrings and wristlets only. “I had also designed a few pendants but somehow it did not click with the people. They like my earrings and wristlets more,” said Singh.

Having found immense popularity with her city clientele, Singh started looking for opportunities outside state and has recently bagged orders from New Delhi and Mumbai. All it takes this 26-year-old to come up with a pair of earrings is a day.

Nominally priced, paper jewellery has become extremely popular with the city crowd. Till date, Singh has made close to 120 pair of earrings and 100 wristlets, which have sold out like hot cakes.

Now she is all set to organise an exhibition in September, right before the festive spree catches on with the women of steel city.

But Singh has not restricted herself to the paper jewellery only. She had designed a few pieces of leather jewellery and wishes to expand her product range soon.

“Colourful stones if used on paper jewellery will give the jewellery a very classy look,” said Singh giving final touches to a pair of danglers for her next collection.
