Other residents can also avail of the facilities at a nominal fee, Tata Steel sports department officials said.

Sportspersons from the city, Tata Steel sports department chief Satish Pillai and other officials, were also present on the occasion.

As many as 70 men have already enrolled their names in the gym. Company employees also have to pay very low fees. The gym will be open from 6 to 8.30 in the morning and then again from 4 to 7 pm.

A chest press machine, an adjustable cross pulley, a chest developer, a wrist curl machine, an inclined bench, a stepper, a twister, a hyper extension machine, exercise cycles, adjustable bench, leg extension machine and a multigym, which has several facilities attached, are among the equipment the gym offers to its members.

The wrist curl, inclined bench and cross pulley have been introduced for the first time in any gym run by the company. It also boasts of different sizes of the latest dumbbells.

The steel major runs four other gyms in the city. While three, including one exclusively for women, are housed in the JRD Tata Sports Complex, one operates from the Keenan Stadium. The equipment have been procured from a Delhi-based agency.

Singh asked the officials to utilise the facilities with discipline and for their benefit.

“If members feel the need to increasing the equipment in future, we shall be happy to oblige,” the senior Tata Steel functionary promised.
