Tara Shahdeo will join six shooters from Jharkhand who have been picked for the national selection camp to be held in New Delhi later this month.
The experienced Ranchi-based shooter qualified for the selection camp on the basis of her performance at the ongoing Kumar Surendra Singh Open National Shooting Championship in Thiruvananthapuram.
Tara scored 406.6 points in the 10m air rifle shooting in senior women's section to make it to the camp.
The minimum qualifying score was 405, said Jharkhand State Rifle Association (JSRA) secretary-general Uttam Chand Debuka. The camp is being organised by the National Rifle Association of India (NRAI).
The other six shooters - four from Jamshedpur and two from Ranchi - have already been picked for the national selection camp.
Anjali Das, Shikhar Shourya, Varun Dubey and Balajee (all Jamshedpur), Nishant Singh and Rinisha Verma (both Ranchi) have made the cut on the basis of their performance at the 59th National Shooting Championship Competition held in New Delhi from December 1 to 15 last year.
The shooters were part of the 25-member state outfit for the national competition staged at Karni Singh shooting range at the national capital.
"Performance at the national camp will be the yardstick for their selection in the Indian outfit for international competitions. We are quite optimistic that some of our shooters would get the nod. All are talented shooters and have been doing well in the state championship organised by us. We are trying our best to develop interest towards this sport, especially among youngsters," said Jamshedpur-based Debuka.
