Jamshedpur, Jan. 15: Chief minister Arjun Munda will be walking the ramp for the cause of promoting indigenous silk.

Munda is to model for a show at the state capital?s Zila School grounds ? the venue for the 15-day Khadi Mahotsav of Eastern Indian states, which started today.

Speaking at his Ghorabandha residence this morning, Munda said: ?I will be one of the models participating in the Khadi Mahotsav to promote indigenous Kuchai silk products on January 23.?

Munda was here to take part in Tusu (Makar Sankranti) celebrations.

The Khadi Mahotsav will witness over 100 pavilions where khadi, handloom and handicrafts from 14 states are to be showcased.

Chairman of Jharkhand State Khadi and Village Industries Board (JSKVIB) Jainandu said the participants during the fortnight-long fair would include Jharkhand, Bihar, Bengal, Orissa, Sikkim, Assam, Nagaland, Meghalaya, Mizoram, Uttar Pradesh, Uttaranchal, Rajasthan, Jammu & Kashmir, and Chattisgarh.

Of the chief minister?s intention of walking down the ramp, Jainandu said this was a welcome step and showed the solidarity of the chief minister with the state.

However, the organisers of the khadi festival are yet to decide who the other participants of the fashion show will be.

?This will have a long lasting effect vis-?-vis brand promotion of Kuchai silk. The yellow silk already has made its presence felt at the Malaysian capital Kuala Lumpur,? said Jainandu, adding that this may be the first of its kind whereby a chief minister had walked the ramp to promote an indigenous product.

It has also decided to take help from fashion designers and experts of Calcutta-based National Institute of Fashion Technology to promote the brand at national and international level.

The fair is being organised by JSKVIB and Central government?s Khadi and Village Industries Corporation to promote indigenous khadi, handloom and handicrafts products at a national level.
