Ranchi, Nov. 2: Who is the most handsome of them all in the world of modelling?

Rajeev Ranjan (19), who recently walked away with the Mr Handsome title at a competition, organised by Emami in Mumbai.

Standing tall at 5ft8”, Ranjan, a final-year commerce student of St Xavier’s College, Ranchi, walked the ramp with 10 finalists from across the country. He was selected from among 973 applicants.

The competition was judged by advertising guru Alyque Padamsee, India’s ace photographer Ashok Salian and singer-actress Sharon Prabhakar.

Ranjan bagged a cheque of Rs 1 lakh and he will also get an opportunity to be part of an Emami advertising campaign.

While speaking to The Telegraph over the phone from Mumbai, Ranjan said, small-towners are making it big in the modelling world.

“I am really excited as winning the crown among models of Mumbai was not easy. We had to cross many rounds before reaching the final. One plus point was that the audience gave me a warm response, which helped boost my morale,” Ranjan said.

The contestants were judged on the ramp walk and also on their answers.

“We answered a question from each judge. I was asked about my likes and dislikes. Besides, I could feel that the judges were impressed by my witty and coherent answers,” Ranjan said.

After the question and answer round, the contestants were narrowed to five.

“We were asked to describe a charitable deed and also show the way our heart spoke for others,” he said.

Back home, his friend Preetam Kumar, a second-year commerce student of St Xavier’s College, said: “We always felt that because of his looks and height he would win the contest. We are glad that our friend has achieved this.”

Another wannabe city model, Zahid Hussain, who had participated in the Grasim Mr India 2007 contest last year, said: “I had walked on ramp with Ranjan several times and always knew that he had the potential to emerge as one of the top models. Even many local event management groups wanted him to walk the ramp.”
