MLA mom demand
Dhanbad: Kunti Singh, mother of arrested Jharia MLA Sanjeev Singh, on Friday vouched for her son's innocence and backed the demand for a CBI probe into the Niraj Singh murder case.
Speaking to reporters at Singh Mansion, Kunti, a former MLA herself, claimed police were harassing their servants and staff in the name of investigations. "My son Sanjeev is always shadowed by bodyguards provided by police. How can he plot a murder (and that of his cousin)? A CBI inquiry should be conducted," she said.
Excise raid
Ranchi: SDO Bhor Singh Yadav and district excise officials conducted a raid at Food Planet, restaurant on Pandra-Kathitand Road, on Thursday night for selling liquor without a valid licence. The team seized over 200 bottles of alcohol and beer.

Fatal mishap
Dumka: Two persons were killed on the spot and another was critically wounded when two motorcycles collided head-on in the Muffassil area on Friday.
OC V.K. Sinha said while the injured was rushed to the sadar hospital, efforts were on to identify the deceased.

Palamau: A two-day state working committee meeting of Jharkhand BJP was rescheduled on Friday. It will be held at Daltonganj in Palamau on April 29-30 instead of April 22-23.
PLFI arrest
Ranchi: Khunti police on Thursday night arrested an active member of banned PLFI Anil Herenj from Karra police station area along with one pistol and nine live bullets. Anil has revealed that he was supposed to be appointed as the area commander of Tupudana and Karra.
Body found
Deoghar: Police have recovered the body of an unidentified 25-year-old man on the banks of a rivulet in Madhupur area on Friday. He is likely to have fallen from a running train. The case is being probed.
Death on tracks
A 20-year-old man was mowed down by a goods train near platform one of Tatanagar station on Friday morning.
Police said they were trying to identify the victim and ascertain if it was a case of suicide.
Road mishap
One Ajay Mahto (45), an industrial worker, sustained multiple injuries when the bike he was riding was hit by a speeding car on Tata-Kandra four-lane in Adityapur on Friday evening. Mahto was returning home from Gamharia when the mishap took place. The victim was rushed to a local nursing home.
Phone theft
Unidentified persons decamped with a mobile phone from the counter of State Bank of India's Telco branch in the same thana area on Friday morning. An FIR was lodged by owner Sanjiv Kumar Singh, a resident of Barigora in Telco.
