It will be a summer to remember in Jamshedpur, as the state's biggest shopping mall and multiplex comes up in the heart of the city at Bistupur by May-end.
The centrally air-conditioned P&M Hi-Tech City Center Mall, built at an estimated cost of over Rs 200 crore with a built-up area of over 5.5 lakh sqft, will host a four-star hotel, a plush six-screen multiplex, hypermarkets with high-end retail brands, food court and restaurants, gaming hubs and a spacious parking area.
Chief minister Raghubar Das likely to inaugurate the mall, which is the joint venture of eminent filmmaker Prakash Jha and steel city industrialist R.K. Agarwal.
While Jha is the acclaimed director of films such as Damul, Mrityudand, Gangajal and Rajneeti, Agarwal had hit the headlines in 2012 when embroiled in a cash-for-vote row as an Independent candidate in the Rajya Sabha elections.
"We wanted the steel city to have a mall that can match any in the metros," said a marketing executive of P&M Hi-Tech City Center Mall. "We are sure it will be the most modern and biggest multiplex in the state."
On the multiplex Cinepolis, a Mexican brand which has its footprints in a clutch of Indian cities, including Calcutta, Mumbai, New Delhi, Bangalore, Ahmedabad and others, the marketing executive said the six-screen, 1,200-seater multiplex would show 30 shows daily.
"It will also have a large and spacious ticketing counter, a luxurious waiting lounge to keep guests at ease before their movie begins and its own café," said the marketing official.
He added that the mall would have a two-storey basement parking to accommodate 500 cars and eight storeys of retail, corporate and hospitality units. "Besides Cinepolis, we will have brands like Pantaloons, Big Bazaar and more. The hotel will span the top four floors, and have terrace gardens and banquets too," he added.
In another first, the mall would have 15 high-speed elevators and 12 state-of-the-art escalators with standby power.
On the safety front, the entire structure will have 24-hour CCTV security surveillance and hi-tech fire detection and suppressing systems. The building developed by Mumbai-based architecture has earthquake-resistant design.
