Farewell bash at Tata Steel

Tata Steel managing director B. Muthuraman attended a farewell party, which was held in the honour of 28 employees and officers of the company, who retired recently. Muthuraman congratulated the employees for their sincerity, hard work and commitment. Tata Workers’ Union president was also present.

School champ

Valley View School emerged the overall champion in the JOGA Inter-school Girls’ Football Tournament, which concluded at Keenan Stadium on Wednesday.ig English School had to be content with the second spot. In the senior category, hosts Valley View School emerged winners, while DBMS finished second. The junior category saw Vig English School lift the title, even as Valley View stood second. Sacred Heart Convent won the Plus Two title, defeating Narbheram Hansraj English School in the summit clash.

Coke gift

Coca Cola has lined up number of programmes for the Durga Puja. Local area general manager of Hindustan Coca Cola Beverages Private Limited Amit Saha said the allegations against the company were baseless. He said CCL of UK, TNO of Netherlands and SGS of Calcutta — all testing laboratories — have given a clean chit to the company’s soft drinks.

NIT suspension

NIT, Jamshedpur’s registrar Syed Azmat Hussain, who was arrested by vigilance department sleuths, was on Wednesday suspended. Sources said according to NIT norms, if an employee remains in judicial custody for more than 48 hours, he/she is automatically suspended.

Justice

The judge of fast-track court nine, M.C. Verma, on Wednesday sentenced three persons to rigorous imprisonment after they were proved guilty in a murder case registered with the Dhalbhumgarh police station in February 1999. Those convicted were identified as Bhoglu Tuddu, Fara Hansda and Ramchandra Hansda, all residents of Bhongru village in Dhalbhumgarh. The convicts had murdered a youth, Budhram Tuddu, for not paying a penalty of Rs 100 to the mukhia of the village.

Bumper bonus

Tinplate Company of India Limited announced a 17 per cent annual bonus for its employees for the financial year 2002-03. An agreement was signed by the management and the Golmuri Tinplate Workers' Union on Tuesday.
