Dhanbad: Jasper Jaguars trounced Topaz Tigers by nine wickets and clinched the IIT (ISM) Premier League, an inter-hostel cricket tournament of the institute on Tuesday.
Winning the toss, Topaz Tigers elected to bat first during the decisive encounter played at the Upper Ground on the IIT(ISM) campus here but could score only 94 as their batsmen crumbled in the face of a fierce bowling attack of Jasper Jaguars. The entire team was packed off to the pavilion in 16 overs. For Topaz Tigers Rishabh scored the highest 19 while Aditya scored 17 runs. For Jasper Jaguars Rohit, who claimed five wickets, played a crucial role in denting the batting order of Topaz Tigers. Saurabh and Biplav Sahu took two wickets each.
Chasing the target Jasper Jaguars sailed to victory in just 14 overs and won the match by nine wickets. For Jasper Jaguars, Amrit Tuti exhibited quality batting and scored 43 runs while Biplav scored 29. The lone Jasper Jaguars wicket was claimed by Chandra Prakash. Amrit Tuti was declared man of the match for his knock. Pushpendra Meena of Diamond Champions was adjudged best bowler of the tournament while the prize for the best batsman went to Biplav Sahu of Topaz Tigers. IIT(ISM) sports officer D.N. Acharya gave away the prizes.
Six teams including Administration-XI, Jasper Jaguars, TopazTigers, Diamond Champions, Emerald Knights and Amber Warrior took part in the five day tournament which began on December 1.
In the two semi finals held on Monday, Topaz Tigers defeated Emerald Knights by 57 runs while Jasper Jaguars defeated Diamond Champions by eight wickets.
