Inter steel plant games decided

Jamshedpur, May 5: Jamshedpur will host the Inter-steel plant Athletics and Inter-steel Boxing Championship in October this year.

The decision was taken at a meeting of Steel Plants? Sports Board (SPSB) at the JRD Tata Sports Complex today.

The allocation of different other sports events, which would be organised by other steel plants of the country, was also decided in the meeting.

The meeting, which was chaired by SPSB vice-president A. N. Singh, also included SPSB secretary Satish Pillai and representatives of different steel plants.

While the athletic meet would be held from October 25 to 27, the schedule of the boxing event would be decided keeping the schedule of the National Boxing Championships in mind, said Harbhajan Singh, head of sports Tata Steel.

Singh said the other plant representatives, who are also members of the SPSB, has agreed to host events involving the inter-steel plants sports activities.

Jindal Steel Plant will be organising the inter-steel plant badminton championship in Billary (Karnataka), Bhilai Steel Plant will host the basketball meet.

Alloy Steel Plant, Durgapur, on the other hand, has shown an eagerness to play host to the Weightlifting events and Indian Iron and Steel Company, Burnpur, will shoulder responsibility of organising kabaddi and cricket events.

Bokaro Steel Plant is expected to play host to the inter-steel plants hockey and volleyball championships whereas Rourkela will be organising football and table tennis matches between the plants. Durgapur Steel Plant has agreed to host the chess event.

According to A. N. Singh, the final schedule will be decided at a later date. ?The SPSB members will be fixing the schedule for the events according to their convenience,? he added.

T.K. Bhowmick of the Steel Authority of India Limited, and R. N. Panda of Rourkela Plant, also attended the meeting.
