Jamshedpur, Nov. 8: It’s official. College students can look forward to getting jobs in reputed MNCs through campus placements.
Software and BPO giant Infosys will visit city colleges in the third week of January for campus placements.
Infosys campus ambassador Aditi Goswami announced this at Jamshedpur Women’s College today afternoon. Aditi, a final year student at the college, was selected from 100 students this September and has returned after a weeklong exposure to the BPO world in Bangalore and Mysore.
She would now shortlist eligible candidates from her college and prepare them for various opportunities. “Twenty students from Jamshedpur Women’s College, Graduate School College for Women and Karim City College would be recruited in both Information Technology (IT) and the BPO sector at Infosys,” Aditi said.
For the IT category, minimum 60 per cent would be required from science stream students while for BPO jobs, graduates from any discipline should have 50 per cent marks.
The jobs would be available in human resource, banking and accounts while in IT, opening would be available in engineering and technology.
“Infosys has also tied up with major institutes like Symbiosis, Pune and Indian Institute of Management, Bangalore. Students selected during campus placements can also pursue higher studies from these institutes with required aid from the company,” informed Aditi.
Meanwhile, Aditi would conduct presentations in her college to create awareness and select the right candidates for the final round. Sessions would also be planned in other colleges. One hindrance is that most college students are from the vernacular medium. “Yes, it is a problem. Some personality development and English proficiency classes may soon be started,” said Aditi.
After Infosys, other reputed companies will arrive for the annual placement session. “We have already received a confirmation from Wipro and IBM, but the dates are yet to be announced,” said Shukla Mahanty, principal, Jamshedpur Women’s College.
