Jamshedpur, Aug. 4: Why wait till college days to go for industry visits? ADLS Sunshine School is giving its students a sneak peek into what lies ahead.
It has embarked on a mission to introduce its students to various career avenues so that they can look beyond conventional ones.
“Our Class XII students will be going on field trips to industrial and corporate houses, so that they get to know more about a particular profession — its advantages and disadvantages — from the real people,” said Indrani Singh, the principal of the school.
The main objective of the initiative is to keep students informed and encourage them to opt for non-conventional and emerging career options.
“Most parents want their children to take up engineering, medical, law or banking. They do so only because these are tested career paths. But when it comes to choosing a career, the child’s interests should be the criteria. Parents should not let them become a victim of their aspirations. If they do something they don’t like they will never excel,” she added.
ADLS Sunshine is the first among city schools to start such trips. About 16 commerce students visited the Bank of India branch in Sakchi recently. They even interacted with bank officials, who answered their queries too.
The field visit has been made compulsory for all students and several more are lined up through August. Some of these include trips to Sahayog, the Jusco call centre, insurance companies, the army camp at Sonari, the Aeronautical Institute and media houses operating in the city.
The school will also organise tutorial classes to prepare students for the National Defence Academy, scholastic aptitude tests and airhostess training programmes.
“After Class XII, the roadmap is confusing. There are too many options and too many suggestions — some even compelling — that leave them more confused. I am hopeful that our initiative will help them choose the career of their choice,” said Singh.
