GOOD DEED: Sabuj Kalyan Sangha in Telco

A Jamshedpur-based social outfit will celebrate its foundation day with a good deed.

Telco-based Sabuj Kalyan Sangha will organise a blood donation camp on its 72nd Foundation Day on Tuesday.

Also, based on the number of units of blood it collects, it plans to donate free coupons it gets from Jamshedpur Blood Bank to the needy.

Every organiser of blood donation camps gets half the number of coupons of the total units of blood collected in an event. For instance, if a camp collects 100 units, the organiser will get 50 coupons. Each coupon can be exchanged for one unit of blood.

"We organise blood donation camps twice a year and so get a lot of coupons from Jamshedpur Blood Bank. We will hand over those coupons to people in need, who can use them as and when required," said Amit Bose, finance secretary of Sabuj Kalyan Sangha.

This apart, over 956 club members have decided to create a database of their personal details, including names, addresses, contact numbers and blood groups.

"We often come across patients with rare blood groups. So, this database will help people in emergencies. People often get hassled when asked for a rare blood group or when the blood bank runs out of stock. In such a situation, they can contact us," added Bose.

The foundation day won't lack entertainment too. A cultural programme in the evening will see Sa Re Ga Ma Pa Bangla fame Sourav Das belting out hit numbers.

Set up in 1946, Sabuj Kalyan Sangha was founded by nine core members, mostly Tata Motors employees, to uphold Bengali culture in the steel city. It also organises a popular Durga Puja.
