When it comes to what Generation X wants, especially from Hindi films, one aspect that is on the “most wanted” list is “gyan-free” movies.
According to the young generation, films should be entertaining. They do not want movies that sermonise.
Uday of BIT Mesra said: “I am in love with Shah Rukh Khan movies. His movies have everything — romance, comedy, emotion as well as a bit of action. He was amazing in films like Dilwale Dulhaniya Le Jayenge and Kuch Kuch Hota Hai.”
Sarmishtha, another BIT student, has a similar view. She said: “A film should have a mixture of everything. But it has to be well balanced. An overdose takes the fun element out of films. Look at Khabhi Khushi Khabhie Ghum. It had an overdose of tears. After every five minutes, one of the characters would start to weep. It was agonising. A film should not be made in such a way.”
Neetu, a St Xavier’s College student, said, “My all-time favourite movie is Anand. It is a beautiful movie. Each character looked realistic. The film was emotional, but only a great director can handle such films. And Hrishikesh Mukherjee is one of the greatest directors of all times.”
Atanu, another student, said, “Times have changed and I doubt if films like Anand would be enjoyed by people now. Nowadays people want films full of masala. The films of Govinda perfectly match the public taste. . He is a great dancer. I agree that his films do not have logic but no one can deny that he is an exceptional actor. If provided with the right kind of roles, he can do wonders. He is an actor who can easily overshadow his co-stars.” Mrinalini, a school student, said, “Amitabh is the best. No one can match his acting skills. He is an icon. Can anyone compete with him in performance as in Agneepath or Aakhein? Look at his earlier films. Sholay, Namak Halal, Shakti, Kabhi Kabhie, Zanjeer… the list is endless. And he still continues acting with vigour. The way he performed in Aks was breathtaking. He is the best.”
As the capital gears up for the marriage season, the number of dance performances on the roads have been on the rise.
Several male and female dancers of different age groups are seen in different parts of the capital dancing to various tunes. They perform bharatnatyam on the road when they proceed towards the bride’s place to attend a marriage ceremony. They dance to the beat of tribal and western musical instruments with equal ease. From cat-like movements to an occasional monkey jump the dancers display their artform with agility much to the delight of the audience. Conventional dancers find it difficult to follow their style as the street dancers do not follow any particular dance form.
The annual Disneyland fair at Sakchi promises to delight shoppers with various items, including garments, crockery, clay items and handloom products on display.
About 70 stalls have been put-up at the fair. Stalls selling mouth-watering dishes of different regions are an added attraction. One of the main attractions of the fair is the swing, which is a major crowd-puller. The organisers have also taken measures to provide ample space for people to move around with ease.
