 People of the Punjabi community dance around a bonfire to celebrate Lohri at Shakti Mandir in Dhanbad on Saturday night.
On Sunday morning, a woman gives finishing touches to a floral rangoli inside the main Ayappa temple in coal town's Jagjivan Nagar, for the Keralites to celebrate Makar Sankranti, while another (below) takes a holy dip in the Damodar, which many north and east Indians do on the harvest festival that also marks the sun's transit to Capricorn (Makar).

 

In Jamshedpur's Domuhani area, crowds throng to watch the giant chaurals on Sunday, a traditional display in Tusu festivities.
