S. Yashwant & Subarno Lahiri win best footballer titles; East Singhbhum players to serve in semis

East Singhbhum shuttlers Deyashi Kanjibiliya and Monica Kumari qualified in the women's singles semi-finals by posting comfortable wins at the 48th Mohan Memorial State-level Badminton Tournament at Mohan Ahuja Stadium in Bistupur, Jamshedpur, on Friday.

Both the girls were joined by Ranchi's Manisha Rani Tirkey and Dumka's Pragya Raj in the last four stages of the tourney.

While Deyashi trounced her Ranchi opponent Sanupha Rani in straight sets 21-8, 21-11 in the quarters, Monica beat Ritu Vinayak of Dhanbad 21-18,10-5.

Manisha, on the other hand, defeated Dumka's Sakshi Kumari 21-8, 21-6 even as Pragya edged out Ranchi shuttler Zeenat Arra 21-19, 21-12.

Joy Chatterjee (Hazaribagh), Sajjan Kumar (Ranchi), Raunaq Negi (East Singhbhum) and Priyanshu Tirkey (Gumla) advanced into the Under-13 boy's semi-finals.

Joy beat Ranchi's Amaan Rahman 21-14, 21-12 while Sajjan had the last laugh versus Ayaan Rahman, also from Ranchi, by posting a 21-18, 21-10 win. Raunaq sailed past Ranchi's Niraj Keshri 21-13, 21-8 even as Priyanshu claimed a 21-15, 21-11 win over East Singhbhum Aman Sengupta 21-15, 21-11.

Three budding East Singhbhum shuttlers, Anushka Parmar, Aadhya Singh and Sarah Sharma, along with Dhanbad's Diyashi Banerjee, claimed a semi-finals lot in the girl's Under-13 category.

Anushka routed Sharon Kujur of West Singhbhum 21-9, 21-6 while Aadhya put it across district mate Anisha Mishra 21-12, 21-12. Sarah posted a comfortable win against Dhanbad's Prachi Kumari 21-7, 21-5 before Diyashi knocked out her Ranchi rival Ananya Singh 21-16, 21-10.
